President/Writer at Her Whisky Love + Whisky Specialist at Gordon’s
Holly took her first sip of Scotch right out of her MBA program while working for a retail store design company in New York. Sales meetings regularly included drinking whisky and smoking cigars. Each meeting meant a new whisky to taste and a curiosity began to grow along with a strong desire to learn more. She continued working in retail store design for a few more years all the while starting a small collection of whisky and taking spirits and wine classes on the weekends.
Although she loved the classes she was taking, she wasn’t getting the specific whisky education she wanted. She created her own study program and for the majority of 2016 and 17 she traveled through Scotland, Ireland, Kentucky, Tennessee, Japan and Tasmania. Holly has visited just over 90 distilleries worldwide and tasted hundreds of different whiskies all while documenting her stories on her blog . She also worked at Knockdhu Distillery for a week in the Highlands of Scotland where they produce anCnoc Scotch. The technical side of distillation and production is important to her as well. She studied at Midleton Distillery in Ireland and recently achieved her Certificate in Distillation from the Institute of Brewing and Distilling in the UK.
Holly finds that the true beauty in whisky is the social and business aspect. Taking a sip of whisky allows you the experience of feeling like you are a part of where it is made. Jack Daniels can bring you to the humid, rural back roads of Tennessee and Highland Park can bring you to the otherworldly Scottish island of Orkney in the North Sea. This kind of experience is something to look forward to with friends and family, but also a way to build relationships in the business world. Via Instagram, Holly was discovered by Gordon’s Fine Wine & Spirits, a small retail chain with five locations based in Boston, Massachusetts. She now lives in the greater Boston area when she is not traveling. In this role she curates the Scotch & Whiskey selection and buys for the five retail locations. Her role also includes hosting private tasting events, education classes, whisky and food pairings, selection of casks for Gordon’s Private Barrel Program and also running social media and marketing campaigns for the Gordon’s Whisky program. She also continues writing for her own blog looking to share her passion for anyone that’s interested in learning more and exploring the world of whisky!
